262 263 Additional Terminology ACTIVE DOOR The primary door in a pair of doors and typically has an operable handle set. BUTT HINGES Hinges with one leaf mortised to the jamb and one leaf mortised to the edge of the door. CABINET ROSES The back plates behind the cabinet knob or pull. CLAVOS Decorative nails typically applied to the surface of the door. EDGE PULLS Used to retrieve a pocket door from the pocket. EMERGENCY RELEASE This term refers to the capability of a lock to be unlocked from the exterior side in case of an emergency situation. This is an aspect of most interior privacy lock sets. Rocky Mountain Hardware provides an emergency release key with our privacy lock sets. FLUSH PULLS Recessed pulls used on sliding doors such as pocket or bypass doors. Handing (hinged doors) Indicates where the door is hinged and the direction it swings. Please see chart below. Rocky Mountain Hardware uses the same key style for all of these cylinders so that all can be keyed to the same key. INACTIVE DOOR The secondary door in a pair of doors. The inactive door swings or slides like the active door and is often secured with flush or surface bolts and typically has inoperable handles. ORNAMENTAL HINGE STRAP A decorative piece of metal applied to the surface of the door to mimic a strap hinge. STRAP HINGES Hinges that have one leaf applied to the surface of the jamb and one leaf attached to the surface of the door. SPRING ASSIST Each handle Rocky Mountain Hardware produces has an additional spring attached to the handle and the escutcheon that returns the lever, knob or ring to the neutral position; this mechanism eliminates sagging handles. HANDING (SLIDING DOOR) Indicates the direction the door slides. Please see chart below. Look through these pages to see pictures of each style in setting as well as simple product shots on white background. Each style has many different sized plates to carry your selected design from the entry to the bathroom. See pages 24-165. If you selected our DESIGNER COLLECTION , you will also need to select a choice from either our Italian leather (pages 66-67) or our bronze texture options (pages 58-59). If you selected our EDGE COLLECTION , you will also need to select a texture option (pages 32-35). If you do not already know your local dealer, please call us directly to find the one best suited to serve your needs. 888.788.2013 Below is a list of details that your dealer will need to finalize for your order. • Number and location of doors–then the following information for each door. • Handing of each door (see diagram on page 262). • Door stile width. The stile is the vertical flat portion of the door where the hardware mounts. The dimension needed is from the edge of the door to where the flat portion ends/molding or other detail begins. • Door Thickness. • Are doors already bored for hardware? If yes, you will need measurements of these holes. (If not, boring instructions are included with the hardware.) Select a patina. We have 12 patina finishes-with two different base alloys. Our silicon bronze finishes are more copper/brown in appearance, while our white bronze finishes are more pewter/silver in appearance. See pages 16-19. Select a handle. We have many handle options, including grips, levers and knobs. Grips are typically used on larger entry doors, while levers and knobs can be used for either entry or interior doors. Grips and levers or knobs are often mixed on the same project to accommodate different needs. See pages 166-195.
